THE EVENT
The match was played at TN Chettiars hall in Kota Road Taiping. Actually ISPNP was there on opponents’ turf for the hall was the LMEG’s killing den. It seemed that they have been practicing for a very long time. Time after time they got better whilst ISPNP not only grew complacent but bellied up. As agreed, ISPNP sponsored the cost incurred on
food and refreshment . Kemira Sdn Bhd, our kind sponsors, put up
the trophies, prizes and souvenirs. LMEG the other things like hall renting,
shuttle cocks etc etc.

By the way, the acronym LMEG stands for Larut Matang Estates Group. This is more or less a social group of planters who are mostly non ISP members working around the district of Larut Matang. However, a few of them are from out of district from places like Selama and Pantai Remis. Our branch the ISPNP sometimes invite them for our own function particularly when our call to our own branch members receive lukewarm response. Sometimes it was a blessing for them to join in when our own branch members fail to give their support. And sometimes we as planters join their function too once in while – for the sake of comandreship. Some of us in ISPNPians hold post in their committee too. As they are not a registered society they remain underground. But nevertheless, we are there trying to instill a sense of awareness. As long as we are in the fraternity, it does not matter. And as LMEG appointed leader Khiew had said it nicely that “ Though we are different flock of birds, we all have feathers (or something like that)” . Which is true in every way. And we never give up in trying to ISPiased them. Perhaps this badminton match was one of them.. |

So the game day finally arrived. Our branch members
had expected fail to turn up in full force (a déjà vu it
seems). Maybe not all could come playing for we would had welcomed them
even for cheering or jeering. We don’t mind but they were not to
be seen. Unlike the many, rain or shine, Ang bang Huat the
winner of Seminar early bird was there to show his undying support to his
society. We thank him for having done so. So they we were in the lion’s
den ready for the feast - to be mutilated. With no supporters it was hard
to expect something good to happen.
The first set which was supposed to be played by the first pair of Chairman ISPNP NoorZul and Committee member Musa did not materialize as one of the opponent’s partner did not turn up on time. It could had been a walk over.. but alas with the persuasion of the captain, Noorzul decided to wait. We call it sportsmanship. The first game was between the potential winning
pair of Kapitan ISPNP Khor and P Amasee. This was actually our best bet
for a win. They fought a gallant match initially but had to eventually
give up the second round. When asked, Khor related that the last time he
played badminton was in July. As for Amasee, his daughter got married in
TNC but he played more frequently than Khor though. That’s why his sharp
smashes.

Chairman Noorzul was next with Musa. It seem
that this pair had warmed up too much before the game even begun. LMEG’s
Khiew looked harmless enough thought NoorZul. But he was in for a big surprise
when Khiew is actually a silent killer drop shot specialist. He made up
for his seemingly static move about by adopting the drooping shot which
got NoorZul and Musa unaware most of the time. In the midst of playing,
Noorzul’s left shoe split opened resulting him to play the remaining time
only in his stockings.
It was humiliating when ISPNP followed behind
by 4-0 with the lost of the second pair. Kapitan Khor looked nervous enough.
But wait.. ISPNP secret weapon was coming in to play the 3rd match. However
his partner, Albert the Smasher could not turn up. So it was left for this
secret weapon to show his stuff with whoever he sparred with.

But the magic it did not come either. Although
anticipated for a turnaround, Secret Weapon Chiang failed to deliver. The
gap grew wider with the defeat of the 3rd match. Suddenly ISPNP was
trailing at 6-0 with 3 matches lost.
The good news came from the 3rd pair though. No
matter how we look at it, there’ll always be something to talk about when
it comes to this pair.

Results
The ISPNP was considered very lucky that the imported
pair from KL in the form of the sponsor themselves got them the first point.
On top of that another guest player Mah, former ISP member who paired with
Kapitan Khor had also assisted in bagging the other points. It was rather
unfortunate that ISPNP's imported player from Finland did not turn up due
to flight delays. We thank these friends of ours for without them the egg
would have never been broken.

Sponsor and Support
We thank Kemira Sdn Bhd who again came out to
support and sponsor us for this event. Definitely with this game that was
played the rival between the comandreship between this two clans
could be fostered much better. The guys from Kemira were familiar
people for they had came for the seminar too. But too bad for Kenneth and
his Finland colleague Mr Jouti who wrote the Kemira paper together could
not turned up due to other obligations. If they did, perhaps the table
would turned and obviously too that ISPNP would go international with imported
badminton players. But then again, it could trigger complaints and grouses
from our formidable opponent. Anyway we thank them nevertheless, we hope
that the coverage in this page will bring fond memories for people who
visit them. Not only it is our ‘edge’ that we ISPNP showcased, but the
records that we put in for us to visit again when we are a lot older than
who we are today.

Conclusion
It was a good game. It ended with the hope that there'll be plenty more to come. Not only in the courts but also in the halls for seminars, in the fields for agricultural machinery’s demonstration and again in the courts for legal proceedings (hope not on this one). The spirit like what Khew had said the "Birds...(please refer to top)" and as NoorZul had said "we will return again one day with a vengeance". As I stepped out of TNC hall, I can feel that
my back will be aching for sometime. Anyway, that is sport and no matter
how bad the outcome was, win or loose, it’s just a game.. but then it says
again that be a good sport.. and so we were. Today maybe their day.. but
tomorrow may be something different.
